こんなに大きくなったよメダカの赤ちゃん

めだかの子供が最近大きくなった。一番大きくなるのが早い子供は、２センチになった。もう４ひき、大人になりかけているのがいる。

The early hatched rice fish has grown to 2cm length.  There are four other rice fish wich has grown to this length. 

すくすく成長メダカの稚魚

七月に生まれたメダカの稚魚の一匹が大人の体つきをしていた（体長８ミリ）。後5～6日すれば、親と一緒にできるかもしれない。大人になってくれるといいな。

One of the newly born rice fish has grown to 8mm length.  

めだかのたまご、うまれたぞ

一粒種がついにふ化した。

僕が、捕まえてきた魚から繁殖した初めての稚魚だ。

十年間、生きてきて初めてのことだ。

大人になるといいな。

This is the newly hatched fry from the rice fish which I catched last autumn.  

めだかのたまご移すの大作戦

ママメダカはその後も卵を産んでいる。卵を持っているたんびに別のすいそうに移している。その作戦は、成功している。十六個も卵を残すことができた。一粒種だけだと、物足りないと思っていた。ママメダカさんありがとう。

The same rice fish is continuing to carry eggs.  When I wake up in the morning and find 'mama-rice fish' carrying eggs, I put her into another case and wait until she lay eggs.  This seems to work and now I have 16 eggs waiting to hatch.  

またみつけためだかのたまご

今回は、めだかのたまごを一つだけ移すのに成功した。一粒種を大事にしたいと思う。

The same rice fish was carrying eggs again.  This time, when I came home, I was able to find one of eggs remaining.  I want to look after this one egg carefully. 

メダカのたまご

メダカが卵を持っていた。卵は、今は別の入れ物に入れている。産まれるかな？

One of the rice fish was carrying eggs.   I wonder if they will hatch. 

えびのたまご

昨日、エビの卵を見つけた。お腹に沢山抱えていた。重そうな感じがした。きちんと生まれるといいな。

I found one of the 'ebi' carrying eggs.   Looks so heavy to move around.    

モニョモニョ君

今日、ビオトープを見たらモニョモニョした虫がいた。ビオトープの生き物に害があるかもしれないので、陶器の器に入れた。何だろう。

I peeked in and found something moving in my biotope.   It doesn't seem to have eyes.  I wonder what it is.  Until I'm confident enough to say that it will not bite any of the fish, I decided to put it　aside.        

テントウムシ

ビオトープにアカボシテントウが来て、泳いでいた。手ですくってみたら、すぐに飛んでいってしまった。よく泳げるなあと思った。

A lady bug was swimming in my biotope.  It flew away once I scooped it up.   I didn't know that a lady bug can swim. 

調査してます

友達とビオトープの生き物を調査した。メダカ、モツゴ、エビ、モノアラガイがいた。

My friends and I scooped any moving objects in my biotope.   We found 'medaka', 'motsugo', 'ebi', and 'monoaragai'. 

金環日食

今日は金環日食だった。日食の間、何度かビオトープをのぞいてみた。メダカは水面近くに上ってきて活発に泳いでいた。晴れたり、曇ったりして、忙しい天気だと思った。

I was lucky to see experience the annular eclipse in Tokyo.   I peeked in my biotope several times and noticed that rice fish were actively swimming around the water surface. 

また会おうね

2日前のこと。

学校から帰ってきてビオトープを覗いた。オタマジャクシに前足が生えていた（12匹のうち、11匹は前足が生えきっていた）。僕は、急いで田んぼへ戻しに行った。

皆、スクスクと元気に育ってよかった。田んぼから、僕の家までちょっと距離があるけれど、いつか家の庭へ遊びに来てくれたらいいな、と思った。

I peeked in my biotope and found that most of the tadpoles had grown into frogs.  I quickly scooped them up and brought them back to the field where I had found eggs. 
I'm glad that they grew into frogs.  I hope that someday, they will visit my biotope.    

モツゴをお腹いっぱいにさせよう！

先月に比べて、ビオトープのモツゴが少しやせたように感じた。モツゴとおたまじゃくしが共生できるか水槽で観察していた時、モツゴはおたまじゃくしにエサを譲っていた。今、ビオトープの藻は、かなり少なくなっている。このままだと、ますます痩せてしまうので、モツゴは水槽に移し変えて、様子を見ることにした。
12匹のおたまじゃくしは、すくすくと育っている。ビオトープに浮かんでいる、さくらやハナミズキのはなびらも食べている。全員、後ろ足は生えた様子。

I wonder if my biotope is full of good food source for both rice fish and tadpoles... Tadpoles seem to be growing smoothly, all twelve developing legs.   But I wondered if rice fish are well vegetated.   So,  I decided to take out one of the fish from the biotope and feed it separately until tadpoles develop into frogs. 

夜のビオトープ

ふと気になって、懐中電灯（僕の手作り）で夜のビオトープを覗いた。
メダカは水面付近を泳いでいて、本に書いてあったように夜行性だと感じた。
ヌマエビもスイスイ泳いでいたので夜行性だと思う。
おたまじゅくしは、下の方でじっとしていた。懐中電灯で照らしたら、少しびっくりしたように
泳ぎだした。（水温１５度）

Out of curiosity, I peeked in my biotope at night, using a flash light.   Rice fish were active, but tadpoles were motionless. 

おたまじゃくしに足がはえた！

「フン」だと思っていたのが、実は「足」だった。見分け方は、尾をふると落ちるのがフン。そうでない、黒っぽいのが足（フンはもう少し茶色っぽい）。

Tadpoles in my mini-biotope are growing gradually, some are showing legs.

大きくなった

おたまじゃくしが大きくなった（ビオトープのメダカと同じくらいの大きさ）。室内の水槽で様子をみていたら、ビオトープの生き物達と共生できることもわかった。外のビオトープにおたまじゃくし達を移すことにした。

As tadpoles seem to get along together with rice fish, I decided to release and raise them in my mini-biotope.   It's still freezing outside, water temperature 8 degrees.   

実験中

おたまじゃくしがビオトープの仲間達と共生できるか実験中（ビオトープの生き物をおたまじゃくしの水槽に移した）。つっつく行為が見られなければ、ビオトープに移したいと思う。

Wondering if tadpoles can live together with rice fish in my mini-biotope. 



 

カエルのたまご

近くの公園の田んぼの用水路からカエルの卵を少しいただきました。
ふ化したら、ビオトープに入れる予定です。

I brought home some toad eggs.   I hope they turn into tadpoles.  

僕のプチミニビオトープ

本当は、庭に池を作りたかった。でもお母さんが「庭に穴を掘るのはやめて・・・・」と。近くの公園の自然観察舎のスタッフの方々から「ビオトープ」のアイディアをいただいた。そして、田んぼから土や魚達を少し分けていただいた。
2011年11月、僕の小さなビオトープが完成した。

I wanted to make a garden pond but mom said, "no....no digging".   So, I made a 'pot pond', a small biotope using a pot.  Plants and rice fish are from the field nearby.  I'm just excited to see what will happen.
